Equipment For Different Types of Bees

Your first step to get started in a beekeeping business is to read up on beekeeping and the process behind it. The more knowledge you have regarding the different types of bees and the different types of equipment, the faster you can get your business up and running.

Purchase the equipment you need and stay away from used equipment. If you do purchase used equipment, then be sure to have it inspected by an expert. You do not want to buy hives that have had a previous virus or illness or scent, which can scare away new bees.

Now you need to consider equipment, such as a bee suit, a smoker, gloves, hat and a bee brush. A bee brush is a special brush used to remove bees from areas where you don’t want them to be, like on your clothes.

Bee wrist and ankle straps just give you an added layer of protection, because they seal your pants and your sleeves. This keeps swarms of bees from flying under your clothes and stinging you after you leave the hive.

When keeping bees, all it takes is a few basic items of equipment and a willingness to learn all you can about the different types of bees. Without a large initial investment, you could be in the beekeeping business in no time; reaping both the health and monetary benefits that honey can bring.

Reading up on bees in the American Bee Journal can help with any questions that might crop up on your journey.
