Organic Waste Recycling Generates Garden Nutrients
Every year there is more and more concern about the condition of landfills across the country and the fact that many of them are close to overflowing. In addition, the cost of garbage and sewage disposal is skyrocketing. Programs to recycle organic waste have provided some relief in some parts of the country.
It is becoming more apparent that organic waste recycling can also play a vital role in helping farmers cultivate healthier soils for organic farm operations and can help municipalities prevent the contamination of drinking water.
Rather than expending large amounts of money in the handling, treating, transporting and storing of organic waste, the experts claim that these funds could be put to better use by focusing on organic waste recycling. This approach has the possibility of turning a major expense into a new income source for many municipalities while also serving to improve the environment.
Once organic waste recycling is established in an area, the sewage waste from municipalities and from animal producers goes through a waste treatment process to make the material safe for use in organic gardens and farms.
It has also been estimated that the compost produced by this use of organic waste could provide as much as 15 percent of the nutrients for soil treatment that is now being supplied by fertilizers.
