Tackle Shop Near Fishing Areas
Many retired couples look for some sort of business that they can open to provide both an income during their retirement, as well as something to keep them occupied. Many of these couples choose to open a bait and tackle shop.
Every area that has fishing available in lakes, ponds, or rivers, as well as the ocean, needs bait and tackle shops. The “mom and pop” version can be, by far, the most enjoyable kind. Many of these places become the morning and evening hangout for the local fishermen.
Be sure that your tackle shop has all of the different types of bait that you will need to allow the local fishermen to catch every type of game fish available in your area. This may include maggots, earthworms, minnows and other live bait, in addition to a large variety of artificial bait.
Be sure that you have a good selection of other tackle, including rods, reels, lures, fishing line, and floats and sinkers. You could provide fishing licenses and boat registrations, and in the off season, you could consider providing hunting licenses, becoming a check station for local kills, and selling hunting equipment.
Once you open your tackle shop, you will need to understand two very important things. Time and change. You must be willing to invest some time. If you are not willing to put in some really long hours, then don’t even consider this line of business. Fishermen are up early and stay out late.
You must be willing to conform to those hours. Change is the other issue. You must be willing to make the change from fishing season to hunting season in your displays if you hope to get the attention of both fish and wildlife hunters.
