Better Pest Management In Your Garden
If you are looking to avoid bugs and other creepers like snails, slugs and caterpillars munching on your hard work in the garden, then you need to consider pest management. You do not need to use chemical pesticides in order to get rid of pests. You can take steps to prevent pests reaching your growing plants in the garden without chemicals.
One popular method to prevent snails reaching your plants, is to place one or two inches of organic mulch near the plants, to act as a barrier against weeds and creeping pests. You should not place mulch too close to the plant, but give enough room for the plant to grow and provide a barrier.
Another barrier against slugs in your garden is to place a disposable pie pan in the garden and heap soil up to the rim so the slugs and snails can reach it. Fill the pan to the rim with beer. Snails will apparently drink themselves into a stupor and fall into the pan and drown.
Inspect the stems and the undersides of leaves of your growing plants for larvae and insects crawling about. You can easily pick off the insects and the larvae, but if there are clusters of aphids and tiny bugs, you can spray them with a solution of water and a couple of drops of dish detergent.
