Farming For Groceries
Grocery stores and supermarkets have changed how people view food and agriculture. It does not take much thought to go into a store and pick up a week’s worth of groceries. A few canned vegetables here and some fresh produce there, and they are ready for the week.
The connection to the fact that those items had to come from a farm is a distant reality. They do not see the dirt, sweat and worry that is poured into the land in the hopes of a good harvest. Farming, even on a local farmers scale, is a huge importance to everyone’s lives.
If you think that farming is just about some cows in a pasture or a few rows of crops, then you would be greatly mistaken. Many farms are huge operations that require twenty-four seven tending. There are no breaks or vacations for many farmers. But thanks to agricultural research, more plants and animals are being developed that can produce larger yields.
If you are a farmer, then the world owes you a great deal of thanks. Farming is a difficult life that requires time and dedication. It is not just a summer hobby for most. Growing a garden in the backyard is vastly different than growing food and raising animals across thousands of acres of land.
It is thanks to farmers and food and agriculture that the world can exist as it does today. Without the farmers the world would cease to exist.
