U.S. pet owners spend about $3 billion on prescription and over-the-counter pet medicines each year. One customer reported paying over $3 for a daily dose of hip dysplasia medication for his German Shepherd-Rottweiler mix, which was found at 1800PetMeds for $1.76 per day.
“We are providing an alternative to the existing or traditional method of acquiring pet medication by consumers,” explains Bruce Rosenbloom, chief financial officer of Pet Meds. “We buy in large quantities and pass the savings on to the consumer.” He adds that most consumers will save 10-20% at www.1800petmeds.com.
Another way some U.S. shoppers are saving on pet medication is by ordering discount pet supplies from Canada. The reason why you save is that some prescription medications are sold over-the-counter across the border, thus making them naturally cheaper.
For example, a name brand flea and tick prevention medicine sold in a three-pack here for $40 can be purchased in that same three-pack in Canada for just $25. Depending on the exchange rate, your American dollars may be able to stretch further when purchasing meds as well.
When you’re looking for pet medication, be sure to consider some of the top brands. For instance, Frontline Plus and Advantage are well-known flea and tick control pet care products, recommended by many vets.
Heartgard and Sentinel are top selling brands of heartworm medication at pet supply stores. There are many other brands to check out, so be sure to ask your veterinarian for a couple different types of pet medicines you can research before buying.
